Hamminkeln considers itself as a “young city with bright future“.
Although Hamminkeln is not the oldest town in North Rhine-Westphalia, it is one of the biggest towns with a total area of 164 square kilometers.
Hamminkeln is divided into the following boroughs: Brünen – Dingden – Loikum – Mehrhoog – Ringenberg and Wertherbruch.
The beautiful scenery of Hamminkeln will let you enjoy the silence and the stunning view.
You will also find lovingly restored water castles you will surely dream of.
Ringenberg Castle is only one of them. The original owners of this beautiful water castle, were the “Lords of Dingden”. After the castle had seen many different owners, it now belongs to the town of Hamminkeln. In the cellar vault, an exhibition presents interesting archaeological artifacts which were found during the restoration of the castle. Another highlight of great interest is the possibility to marry in “Ringenberg Castle”.
The protestant church of Hamminkeln is home to the marvelous Christopherus – Fresco. It roughly measures 4 by 6 meters and is one of the decorative roof arts painted around 1450. In 1953 the fresco was completely restored.
The protestant church of the borough Wertherbruch is also proud of its frescos from various times. Its oldest fresco was created around 1220.
Also very famous and popular is the “Spring Festival of Dingden“. It is celebrated every second year on the last weekend of August, and is accompanied by an open sale Sunday and offers many special attractions, spread around the streets of the town.
We do not only offer rest and relaxation to our guests, but we also invite you to join our local festivities, such as Thanksgiving and our famous Marksmen’s Festival. These festivities are seasonal highlights in our local community and are always celebrated by many visitors.
